Beware the Bubble
It’s tempting to think that our ideas and policies would have universal appeal given the obvious damage done by Republicans and the Republican President. However it can be sobering to see that public opinion has not shifted as much as we might think it has.
Mother Jones notes that “a political proposition doesn’t truly have majority support until it polls at about two-thirds or better.” They cite a Marist poll showing we are prevailing on background checks, regulation of drug prices and “Medicare for all who want it” but need to work harder and smarter about framing other issues.
This what strategic values framing is about; the frames we use on one issue work across other issues and strengthen our worldview in voters minds over time.
